Over processing and cool winter months can leave your hair dry and damaged. A great solution for this is to use a hot oil treatment. My favorite budget friendly, homemade hot oil treatment is below:
What you will need
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. daily hair conditioner
Lavender essential oil (optional)
Shower cap or towel
Directions
Pour the olive oil in a saucepan and add the conditioner. If desired you can add a few drops of lavender essential oil for fragrance. Stir the oil and conditioner on low until the two are blended. Make sure that you never leave unattended as the oil can heat very quickly. Heat just until the two are warmed, not hot. Please note: It is important to test out the temperature before putting on your hair. If it is too warm, wait several minutes until cool enough to apply to hair. Once at the correct temperature, place oil in a bowl and rub into your hands, not directly into your hair. Carefully apply from your hands to your hair, starting from the ends and working your way up to the scalp. Finish by combing the mixture through your hair, making sure every strand is evenly covered. Wrap hair in shower cap or a towel and leave on for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, rinse hair out with Shampoo. You may need to Shampoo twice to get all the oil treatment out of hair. Follow with conditioner if desired.
Use treatment once a week for long, damaged hair. Otherwise, use once every two weeks to treat hair. When used regularly, hot oil treatments work great at improving the texture and look of your hair.
My dry winter tresses could definitely use some attention right now!
